Setting The Pace

May 30, 2008 | Hmmm...No Comments Yet

I look better in leatherHi Bo,My name is Kodi and I am a lab and almost 2 years old. My problem is that I pace. I have been outside, I have had a long walk and playtime in the yard with my toys. I have lots of toys inside to play with too. But I still pace, back forth around, over and over again. My family tries to ignore me but after a while it drives them crazy and they put me in my crate. My Mom feels sad that I am in my crate when the family is home. Is there anything my family can do to help me stop pacing ????

Thanks Bo

Instant Family

You can’t tell me that fertility clinics aren’t affecting everyone, including dogs. Don’t believe me? Then how do you explain this?

An American Bulldog has given birth to a record-breaking litter.

Kaiser gave birth to twenty pups – the average is ten.

The pups, born in New Barnet, Hertfordshire, were fathered by fellow bulldog Mutley, reports The Sun.

Kaiser’s owner Kerry New was shocked by the huge delivery but will be soon reaping the benefits as each dog is set to fetch up to £1,000.

The litter is now set to go in the Guinness Book of Records.

It’s good to be a male dog.

Cuteness comes in many forms, although I believe the cutest is of the canine form. So what makes you feel warm all over (besides me peeing on your leg)?

Boot Camp

Why Do I Need 4 Shoes? It didn’t dawn on me until I was five years old why people wore shoes. It also happened to be the same year I slit my paw pad open on a sharp rock, losing two pints of good old fashioned Bo blood. So delicious, ask any vampire.

Seeing the benefits of protecting a canine’s paws on treacherous ground conditions, Chinese firefighters decided to do something about it.

Rescue dogs working with Chinese firefighters have been given leather shoes.

The picture is of rescue dog Lu Feng showing off his leather boots. Out of the camera’s view, but ahead of him, was his married sister, Ms. Feng-Shui. Some of you may have heard of her. Read more

Old Age Record Holder

May 29, 2008 | 2 Comments

What’s Up Sonny? And I thought I was old…check out this unofficial record holder.

A couple claim their Labrador cross is the oldest dog in the world.

The owners of Bella say that she is at least 29 years old, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Owner David Richardson, 76, said he got the mixed breed dog from an animal home about 26 years ago when she was at least three years old.

That would make Bella’s age more than 200 years in canine years.

That means she was born during the same time Benjamin Franklin’s dog was holding on to that kite and discovering electricity.  That is old.

But the RSPCA said it does not have any records for Bella and the Guinness World Records said without the appropriate paperwork it could not be proved.

“I’m convinced she is the oldest dog in the world”, said Mr Richardson, from Chesterfield.

Gareth Deaves, records manager from Guinness World Records, said: “Unless we can get a doggy birth certificate or some really clear evidence from the RSPCA then we won’t be able to prove Bella’s age and we can’t list her as the oldest dog.”

According to Mr Deaves, the most recent record for the oldest dog was held by Butch, a 28-year-old from America who died in 2003.

The oldest ever dog was Bluey, a sheepdog from Australia, who lived to 29.

Bluey was seen in the Bugs Bunny cartoons punching a clock to watch the sheep.  I can’t remember if he was Sam or Ralph, but he was there.

Oh, Deer

May 28, 2008 | 2 Comments

Cut Me Mick!My deer, you think it’s easy being a dog don’t you? Think again, as a friend of Rudolph shows the world. Check it out

A deer wearing an orange dog collar kicked a child in a Santa Rosa County neighborhood, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s weekly report. After the May 8 incident, FWC officers investigated and found that the deer had been kept in a cage at a nearby residence.

The deer probably beat up a poor little dog and stole its designer collar. A little lesson for you pups out there, you never want to go into the woods in the dark wearing your best necklace, lest you become the target of a herd of deer. You also don’t want to go into the woods wearing deer pee. You don’t want the buck to stop at you. Trust me on that one. Read more

All Aboard

May 27, 2008 | Hmmm...No Comments Yet

All AboardThe Japanese, I love ‘em. From a distance of 10,000 miles they just seem to be a fun loving bunch, what with the cool anime and those hilarious TV shows. Well, it appears they’re having so much fun that they don’t have enough people to man their train stations. Check out their employment strategy.

KINOKAWA, Japan (AFP) – In times of need, Japanese say they can even ask the cat for help. In this town in western Japan, people look to Tama, a nine-year-old cat working as master of an unmanned train station.

The tortoiseshell coloured creature, born and raised at Kishi Station on the provincial Kishigawa Line, wears a formal uniform cap of Wakayama Electric Railway and calmly watches passing passengers who greet her.

Greetings vary between “Mornin’ Tama!”, “What up Tamo san?”, and “Harro Tama.” but all receive the same polite response, “Meow.” Read more

Heartbreaker

May 23, 2008 | 1 Comment

Love Is A Two Way StreetIt’s always good to see humans returning the favor of our unending loyalty and support to them. This story about “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” warms my heart, much like the pacemaker she just received warms hers.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – After years of helping authorities look for murder victims and survivors of natural disasters, a search-and-rescue dog named Molly has been rescued herself.

Surgeons at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine on Thursday installed a pacemaker in the 5-year-old chocolate Labrador retriever’s heart. She needed the surgery after being diagnosed with a complete electrical heart blockage.

I love chocolate labs, they taste much better than the vanilla ones, so it’s great to see Molly get help. Read more
