Fish Fly FedEx To Vacation Destination

When I travel, I insist on doing it the right way. If I’m flying, I go first class. If I’m driving, I go in the passenger seat. If I take Amtrak, I ride in the alcohol car. It’s what you’ve come to expect from me and I’d hate to disappoint.
I realize I’m lucky to be able to make those choices, but others aren’t as fortunate. Take for instance some big fish at the Shedd Aquarium.
The Shedd Aquarium has sent six tons of fish a flying, relocating seven whales and four dolphins to Connecticut.
The move of the creatures — mammals, actually — aboard two FedEx air-cargo transports was necessary as the Shedd renovates its Oceanarium.
Going on vacation via FedEx? Hmm…maybe the fish thought Tom Hanks was piloting that plane. I don’t know, but why go to Connecticut? What would possess a fun loving school of fish to visit there? Then again, being anywhere but Chicago would seem like a vacation.
The animals — trucked from Shedd to O’Hare on Aug. 29 and Sept. 3 by a team of about 125 people — were transported in waterproof containers that included hammocks to support the animals during transit.
I now realize why shipping rates are so high…125 people to deliver a package? I know a company that could do it with 124. Just sayin’.
Shedd also sent 12 staffers to Connecticut who’ll remain with the animals throughout their stay in Mystic.
Why? Because fish can’t be trusted on their own. Ever hear the phrase, “Drinks like a fish?” Personally I don’t mind the drinking, but once the karoake starts I have to draw the line.
