Don’t Eat Wandering Pigs

Reading the paper this morning it appears, at first glance, that West Virginia just may be the place I retire to. Why? Apparently they have pigs roaming free across the state.
Don’t believe me? Then read this from the Charleston Daily Mail.
HURRICANE, W.Va. — A Putnam County emergency official is offering some unusual advice to residents: If you happen to find a pig, don’t eat it.
That’s because Putnam County officials are still searching for five pigs lost after a tractor-trailer overturned on W.Va. Route 34.
Of the pigs being hauled to a holding facility in Iowa, five have not been recovered. At the time of the crash Oct. 15, 13 pigs were recovered near the scene.
“We were informed by the trucking company hauling the animals that the pigs were heavily medicated and could pose a health risk,” said Frank Chapman of the Putnam County Office of Emergency Services.
Chapman said he wasn’t sure what medicines were given to the pigs but thought antibiotics could be part of the mix.
OK, so there aren’t a lot of pigs roaming around aimlessly. But hey, a few is better than none.
“We’ve been told people have found them but we just wanted to make sure they or anyone else that might recover these pigs wait to make sure the drugs are out of their systems.”
Have you ever seen a pig detoxing? It ain’t pretty. They stick their hoof down their snout and then throw up tiny sausages. Where do you think Pigs in a Blanket come from?
