Tales From A Therapy Dog

Our friend, Kensy, from The Good Dogma Company had his visit to the nursing home yesterday and wanted to share his tale with us…

Yesterday was a great visit to the nursing home.  Me and my pals dressed up to bring some holiday cheer to the residents. I was dressed like a reindeer and must have been irresistible because I scored two packs of graham crackers and a nutter butter. Maybe I should dress up more often.

I got to see some of my old friends yesterday and even met a few new ones. In one room we met a woman who told us she was having a bad morning, very depressed, but having us there was cheering her up. She was so glad we stopped in to spend some time with her. Folks being glad to see us seemed to be a reoccurring theme, which is the whole point of visiting, making a difference in someone’s day.

Mom’s favorite resident of the day was the woman whose hair was a little mussed up. When we walked in her room she was telling us the person who was supposed to fix her hair had to cancel and her hair was a mess. Mom told her not to worry about it, said she looked fine. Her response “I don’t give a rat’s ass what anyone else thinks about how I look.” If that doesn’t make you laugh I don’t know what will.

After about two and half hours we bid our farewell, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and told them we would be back in January.
